Clubs & Community Servic.s Council Brief Health Clinic Closure The Adams County Health Center, Inc. will be closed from 12:30 to 4:30 PM on Feb 2, 2012 and Feb 13, 2012 for the installation and testing of new software. The clinic will reopen the following morning at its regular time. This closure will affect the Clinic portion only. Family Movie Night There will be a family movie night at Families for Christ located in the basement of the Tater Tots Daycare on Friday, ,January 27th. Join internationally recognized author dana Kemp from the University of Idaho and participate in Part 2 of meeting skill development on Thursday March 8, 2012 at 6:00 P.M. Book Signing Elizabeth Fields is proud to announce the debut of her first novel Best Friends Forever, now available in book stores and on line at, Elizabeth is the daughter of Ed and Janet Fields, currently of Council, and previously of Los Alamos, CA. Elizabeth will begin a bi-state book tour, kicking off the events with a Premiere Launch Party in Council at Council Coffee Company, 108 Illinois Ave on Saturday, February 4th from 11:00 to 1:00. Come and meet the author and grab a free treat. All book purchases will be autographed for you personally and will come with free gifts. This should be an exciting event; we hope to see yo u all there. Veterans Sewice Officer Meeting ,Jacques Chung Hee, State Service Officer with the Idaho Division of Veterans Services, Office of Veterans Advocacy meets with Veterans throughout west-central Idaho monthly to assist Veterans and other "eligibles" (such as Veterans' family members) in applying for VA disability claims, upgrading claims, answering questions, and providing other assistance. As a reminder, we can also assist with questions that family members of deployed service members have. Or if you are contemplating Military Service please stop by, we can address your questions or concerns. Mr. Chung Hee and American Legion Post 72 Veterans Service Officer will meet Veterans in the Adams County Courthouse Jury Room on the afternoon of Feb 1, 2012 from 1 pm to 4 pm. Blood Donors Needed We are gearing up for our first blood drive for 20121 January is National Blood Donor Month. The purpose is to raise awareness of the constant need for blood donations, which traditionally decline during the holiday season. This is a great time to revive an old tradition or start a new one to become a regular donor for our community blood drives. Several folks are not eligible to give blood at this point in time, and if you are one of those, please fend someone to take your place so we can keep up the supply for a time that one of our friends or family members will be in need of that precious gift of blood. New Meadows Bingo at New Meadows Senior Center Come play BINGO at the New Meadows Senior Center on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday's of every month at 6:30 PM. Only a quarter per card per game. The University of Idaho Extension Office in Washington County is offering a Pest Management Conference for home growers, commercial growers, and pesticide applicators. Eight (8) Idaho and seven (7) Oregon Pesticide recertification Credits are available. February 7 and 8, 2012 at Weiser Vendome from 8-4:00 p.m. Special guest speakers traveling from the toxicology lab at Oregon State University and The IPM program Coordinators from Idaho and Utah, among other University of Idaho Extension Researcher's and educators, are on the agenda. TVCC Performing Arts Faculty Recital Friday, January 27 th, 2012 the faculty for TVCC's Performing Arts Department will hold a recital to showcase their talents in their areas of discipline. They will be on the Meyer-McLean Theatre stage on the TVCC campus, located at 650 College Blvd. in Ontario, Oregon, starting at 7:30 PM. Events & Activities Adams County Still Leads Idaho in Unemployment by Bob Ftck--Idaho Department of Labor The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped from November to December in 27 of Idaho's 44 counties, following the decline in the statewide rate to 8.4 percent. The number of counties with double-digit rates fell to 13 from 14 in November and 17 a year earlier while six coun- ties had jobless rates of 6 percent or less, up from five in November and only two in December 2010. Caribou County, where there were recent mining layoffs, was the only county with a higher rate at 7.6 percent this past December than in December 2010, when the rate was 6.4 percent Kootenai County, the one metropolitan area in the state MENUS Council Senior Center All meals served at noon with milk & coffee. Adams County continued to have the highest rate at 17 percent in December while Franklin County again had the lowest at 5 percent. Fifteen mostly rural counties had average 2011 unem- ployment rates in double-digits, led by Adams at 16.6 per- cent. But that compared to 18 counties in double-digits in 2010. Owyhee County had the lowest average rate at 5.3 per- cent. up a tenth of its 2010 lowest-in-the-state rate.
