With today's economy and high tech information avail- ability, con artists are finding more and more ways for you to be a victim of scams and fraud. Senior Citizens are likely to have a "nest egg", to own their home, and / or to have excel- lent credit--all of which makes them attractive to con artists. People who grew up in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950 were generally raised to be polite and trusting. Con artists exploit these traits, knowing that it's difficult or impossible for these individuals to say "no" or just hang up the telephone. Older Americans are less likely to report a fraud because they don't know who to report it to, are too ashamed of having been scammed, or don't know they have been scammed. Elderly victims may not report crimes, for example, because they're con- cerned that relatives The Council Seniors want to thank the com- munity for supporting our March fund raiserI The Chinese dinner was fabulous! I was invigorated for a while until I ate some chocolate covered almonds. WOW, those really made me feel tired and bad to boot. I think I need to quit eating sugar; its effects are deleterious to my health! Why is it that the things we crave are the worst things for us? I have cut sugar out of my diet before for varying lengths of time, and after about the fourth day; I felt great. I had more energy and my thought processes were clearer. But, then after a time, I would give in to the inevitable temptation of something sweet and I was off and running again on my sugar addiction! They say that it takes 21 days to create a habit, so for the next 21 days I'm going to create the habit of not eating sweets in any form; no desserts for me here at seniors, no cinnamon rolls, cookies, cakes, ice cream or pies. I'll keep you posted on my progress and should you want to join in my behavior modification experiment, feel free to set your own goals and join me. I have nothing to lose and good health to gain. Pat Flares left me a note telling me that she was going to be having the foot clinic on Fridays for the months of April and May [Pat has been fitting our monthly foot clinic into her regular work schedule, and occasionally she needs to make some changes to the schedule.) I hope this won't be a problem for any of you that use her services. Her foot Clinic in April will be on Friday, April 27th. If you have already made your appointment, you will keep your scheduled time, it will just be a day later. Our next monthly shopping trip to Ontario will be on April 3rd. Please call me or come into the center to sign up for this trip. Our next Food Pantry will be on April 26th from 3 to 4:30 PM and ff you are interested in the inner workings of The Adams County Record Answers to last week's CrosswordI Answers to Last Weeks Word Search' F I H L A D S R E W O L F C F K R Y W E A B K V E S N B | A N H O Y gr X B D UI RI El RJ ,i u | W | U T k by Janice Cawyer 257-3358 the senior center, our next board meeting will be on Wednesday.
