Page 8 Council Jr. High G;Lrls' Basketball What a great basketball season the Council Junior High Gifts had this year! With several eighth grade gifts returning and plenty of seventh graders turning out, Dan Huter & Linda Bonds had their hands full. Both teams went undefeated all season. The parents were happy that an End-of- the-Season tournament was scheduled, because we have a group of girls who like to compete. Near disappointment was averted when Council took over the hosting job. Initially it was scheduled for New Meadows, but there were several injuries, event conflicts and not enough girls that almost caused the tournament dismissal. Council played host to Tri-Valley, Notus and a second Council B team. In Round Robin play (one 20 minute hag), Council A team went undefeated for top seed. Filling the need for a 4 team, a Council B team was formed. Unfortunately by Tricia Bryson they had a tougher time, and didn't fare as well in the win column, but they had the opportunity to get valuable playing time. Notus ended Round Robin as #2, beating Tri- Valley and Council's B team. Once the bracket was filled, teams went on to play a regular game (two 20 minute halves with a 3 minute half time). Council A took on Council B for their first win. Notus took on Tri-Valley, beating them in game 2. In the championship game, Council went on to beat Notus to complete their undefeated season. We had a great season of basketball, and it was good to see all the fans out there supporting the kids. They worked hard this season, and you can only imagine how hard they will work now, since they have enjoyed a season of victory. Be sure to get the sports schedule for Council. We have some amazing talent and a fun group of kids to cheer on! This [Basketballl is the second most exciting indoor sport, and the other one shouldn't have spectators. -- Dick Vertleib Answers to last week's Crossword Wednesday, April 11, 2012 The Adams County Record Textiles program donates quilt to the Lions Club by Fran Ogden This year the Lions Club of Council has generously- helped several children with glasses. They have also provided a scholarship to a graduating senior for many years. Textiles students of Council High School have donated a quilt to the Lion's club. This will be raffled to help Lion's Club members as they help the community. Marion Fell generously donated her time to bind the quilt after it was finished. A goal of the textiles program is for the students to take skills they learn in class and use them to give back to the community. Dear Editor, The Senior Center would like to thank Jerry's Auto Part's for donating a gift certificate for a door prize at our "Scams and Fraud" workshop. Tifani Holden Dear Editor, Danna and Layne want to say "thank you" to the very competent EMT team - Dan Huter, Mark Edwards and Tom Grittith - and experienced deputy Marshall Allen, for Layne's necessary ambulance ride to the Weiser Hospital on Sunday evening, March 18. Danna and Layne Thank You Dear Editor, A big thank you! - to two young high school students (boy & girl). I took a fall this week while helping my wife in the front door, hitting my shoulder. These two students happened to see it happen and came to my rescue. They helped me up, and then my family took me in for Xrays and doctor's care. When I asked their names, they said "Oh, we're just a couple of high school students:' Because they didn't give me names, we would like to say publicly, how much we appreciate their willingness to help. Again, thanks for coming to my aid. Dale & Peggy Garrett Dear Editor, A huge thank you to David Howe and Brodie Nichols for volunteering their time to coach the boys ]r. High Basketball team, and Dan Huter and Linda Bonds for volunteering their time to coach the girls lr. High Basketball team, for the 2012 season. Without the support of these people, the ]r. High kids would not be able to participate in sports. We had multiple games in Council and need to also thank Dan Shumway, Wayne Freedman, Jessie Paradis, David Howe, ]ordin Cook, Ryan Zollman, Lee Bingham, Hannah Bryson, Corbin Hedges, Randy Nichols, Andy Glenn, Charlie Shepherd and Mick Wilson for volunteering their time to ref at the games. Council hosted a boys' tournament on March 23, and a girls' tournament on March 24. Thank you so much to Suzie Meza and Clay Alred for taking admission at the door. Members of the It.
