The program will engage legislative leaders, faculty, guest speakers, and business representatives in a discussion of how to restore the people's trust in government. Participants will explore how elected officials from different branches of state government can earn the people's trust by addressing complex policy problems honestly and forthrightly when it would have been far easier and more politically safe simply to avoid the issue or play partisan politics. Class discussions will delve more deeply into the rehtionship between the governed and the governing and explore what it means to be a true and effective leader. Complex problems require complex solutions that can be found and implemented most effectively when policy makers marshal all of their resources. Legislative leaders working together on a common set of problems are a powerful prescription for success. he State Legislative Leaders Foundation is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose goal All of us who are concerned for peace and triumph of rea- son and justice must be keenly aware how small an influence reason and honest good will exert upon events in the politi- cal field. -- Albert Einstein is to improve the quality of legislative leadership around the country and the world.
