The Adams County Record Council High School Student of the Week Kim Hernicks BY FRAN OGDEN This week's outstanding student is Kim Hernicks who transferred here from Portland four years ago. She is a senior and the granddaughter or Darlene and Rocky Spady of Council. Kim works after school as a part time custodian in the high school in the youth training grant program, and also works as a caregiver in the evenings and before school. When she was selected during this week's staff meeting she was described as inquisitive, eager to learn, dedicated, hard working, involved in community service, and having a caring, polite, respectful and compassionate nature. Kim plans to enter a medical training after graduation. Faculty and staff are certainly glad she transferred to Council. Wednesday, April 25, 2012 FCCLA Accomplishments BY JODZ COOK Greetings from Council Junior/Senior High School FCCLA chapter. "Reality Check" is the theme of this year's Family, Career and Community Leaders of America national leadership meeting in Orlando, Florida July 5-12th. I am very proud of my students' accomplishments, and for the first time ever the CHS FCCLA students ALL received first place in their competitions. The students' projects varied from career investigation to community service and environmental awareness. Sierra Shankle, lac Cook and Jordan Rosengrant participated in Environmental Ambassadors. Environmental Ambassador is a team event that recognizes participants who address environmental issues that adversely impact human health and well-being and who actively empower others to get involved. The students researched topics, investigate areas donated to the veterans where they can make a in Adams County. On difference, develop and Veterans Day the students carry out a stewardship made and decorated project for their home, 60 cupcakes that were school, or community, delivered to the V.A. and educate others Hospital in Boise. They in their school or also prepared a reception community about the for our local veterans problems, effects, and solutions regarding the environmental concern. For competition they created an electronic portfolio. Daniel Cameron, Hannah Bryson and Kim Hornisberger competed in Chapter Service Project. The FCCLA members and textiles classes made 60 fleece blankets which were before the school wide assembly. The annual Veterans Day dinner was served by the local FCCLA members and the fleece blankets were given to all the Adams county veterans. Savannah Schaffer, competed in Career Investigations. Savannah prepared a professional portfolio and researched what it will take for her to be an elementary school teacher. She also job shadowed Mrs. Lattimer (lst grade at CES) for two class periods and volunteered at the local day care, Tater Tots. We are excited to have one state FCCLA officer next year: Hannah Bryson, a 9th grader at CHS was elected to serve as the state FCCLA Vice President of National Programs during the 2012-2013 term.. FCCLA is considered the Ultimate Leadership Experience. By allowing our FCCLA members to attend national leadership meetings I believe that they are developing leadership skills which make them stronger individuals, family and community members. The FCCLA members attending nationals will be having several fundraisers in the next two months. We would appreciate your support!
