Page 20 Wednesday, April 25, 2012 Where is This? The Adams County Record Local Author Rick Tolman Rick Tolman of Council is the author of a children's book entitled, "I Saw a Purple Bubble7 It is writ- ten in verse that promotes 'imagination and creativ- ity! The fun storyline, com- bined with positive moral and vibrant images, make it a fun read for both children and adults. Rick's daughter, Rebecca Hopkins, colorful- ly illustrated this delightful children's book. Rick, a former Communications- Electronics Officer for the U.S. Army and District Executive with the Boy Scouts of America, now works as a schoolteacher and youth mentor. Rick discovered he liked writing when given a poet- ry assignment in fourth grade, resulting in his first complete poem titled "The Dummy" which made his teacher and mother smile. He's published other poems since and hopes you enjoy this one. Tolman and Rebecca recently attended Craig Duswalt's "Rock Star Marketing Boot Camp" in Los Angeles. At the Boot Camp they presented their book on stage to over 350 attend- ees. They also learned cre- ative marketing strategies and skills, which lead to many ideas that will help promote their book. One such idea has prompted them to create a Language Arts curriculum for stu- dents, which will promote reading, writing, arts, and creative thinking, in a fun interactive way. Other Boot Camp attendees supported their ideas by purchasing copies of the book, and by pledg- ing to offer support with the educational aspect. Among Rick and Rebecca's supporters were celebrities including, former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Dianne Granger, and mul- timillionaire entrepreneur Loral Langemeier. Other celebrities who signed a copy of the book, included Craig Duswalt, former per- sonal manager for Axl Rose of Guns and Roses, Glenn Morshower from the hit TV series 24, three-time winner Collage Comedian of the Year Adam Ace, Rick Frishman of Morgan James Publishing, and several other individuals of notable character or celebrity sta- tus. "I Saw a Purple Bubble" is available for $2.99 in the Amazon Kindle Store, in print for $13.00 or on a CD for $4.99 by going to the web site: isawapurple- This week's photo by Melody Capener shows a building that sits within easy sight of a road.
