The Adams County Record New Treasurer Continued from frontpage needed to appoint her replacement. The Adams County Republican Central Committee met previously and sent the commissioners recommendations for two contenders for the Treasurer position. The two candidates were Holly McDonald and Christy Wilson. The Central Committee recommended McDonald by a narrow margin. Tlae commissioners' decision was delayed by the fact that they had just received the recommendation and information on the two candidates as they arrived at the meeting Thursday. Commissioner Brown made it very clear that he would not make a decision until he had time to read all the relevant material. As a result, the decision was postponed for about two hours. Meanwhile, Gary and Carole Gallant met with the commissioners to iron out the final details of the county's purchase of a right of way through their land for the Wilson Road near Goodrich Creek. The road that had run along Goodrich Creek was washed out a year or so ago, and the creek now occupies the former roadbed in • places. Instead of putting the road back in such a vulnerable location, the county will built a new route, higher up and on the west side of the creek. The Gallants will receive $25,000 for the right of way, plus a couple of property improvement projects that the Road and Bridge crew will do for them. The Gallants will keep the water rights, but the county will get the rights to the ditch associated with it, as the new road will follow and obliterate part of the ditch route. The final version of the contract was amended and signed. After the commissioners had read the relevant material, they assembled a number of interested courthouse employees in the meeting room to announce their decision as to whom the new Treasurer would be. Each commissioner said the decision was not an easy one because both candidates had outstanding qualifications. One of the things the commissioners had checked was whether they were bound by the recommendation of the central committee. The recommendation is just that, and not a binding. The commissioners announced that, after weighing the factors carefully, they had chosen Christy Wilson. Wilson has been working in the Treasurer's office for some time, and was highly recommended by a number of county employees. She will take over the position" on June 1 and will serve for two years. The office will come before the voters in the 2014 election.
