Page 16 Wednesday, May 23, 2012 The Adams County Record Cambridge Senior Chatter Get Out Your Dancing Shoes by ]anice Cawyer 257-3358 Today's column is going to be a little of this and a little of that. I'm trying to get my vacation hours down, so I'm only going to be working half days for most of this week and next until I do. I'm only supposed to carry 40 hours over from one year to the next, but sometimes it's just not convenient to "take time off,' so it builds up. I have 73 hours right now and that's way too many. So please bear with me. Last week the Cambridge-Midvale senior center received a check for $100 from the Indian Valley Improvement League with a note that said "Thanks for all that you do:' A big "Thank you" to the ladies in the Indian Valley Improvement League! I am over whelmed by your generosity and thoughtfulness. I applied the funds to our Meals on Wheel s program, which is in great need of financial support. I would also like to thank the Cuddy Mountain Ramblers for their check of $100 in memory of Woody Carlile and Harry Richards. I can assure you that we will put the funds to good use. This morning was our first Stretch and Walk class in about two months. Our instructor, Candy Clark, had knee surgery and so we decided to take a short break. I can't tell you I was over)oyed to begin again. It's so much easier to be lazy, but I'm glad I showed up, and I'm looking forward to the time when once again I'm looking forward to exercising instead of dreading the activity. If you have been taking a "little break" from exercising, you might want to )oin us. We meet Monday and Wednesday mornings at 9 and are usually done by 10. It will be the best hour in your day, I promise! May seems to be a popular month for birthdays here at seniors. Janet Fox, Barbara Cook, Susan Platt, Jack Coburn, Ed Hargis, Swede Johnson, Delray Platt, June Carver and Charlie Caruso are all celebrating birthdays this month. I wish all of you a very happy birthday! Pinochle has dwindled to only 4 tables this spring, but we are hoping that once everyone gets done planting their gardens and replacing last year's flowers that more of our regular "players will start coming back. Last but not least, be sure to mark your calendars for our upcoming '711 you can eat Taco feed" on June 1st from 5 to 7 PM. The cost is still $7 for adults and only $4 for children under the age of 12. The Council Jammers are going to be playing, so get Out your dancing shoes, and get ready for a great time and a full belly. I'm hoping someone knows the story on that. Last week's picture showed Middle Fork Falls on the Middle Fork of the Weiser River, not far above Cabin Creek Campground. Until the Grays Creek fire, it was not visible (or at least barely visible) from the road. There were six correct answers, and the winner, drawn from the entries (that were hermetically sealed inside a mile- deep cave under Council Mountain) is Val Nichols. Val wins her choice of a wooden oven tool or a wooden light switch cover from All About Wood. The prize for getting this week's location correct will be a potato cooking bag from D & L Herbs. Entries must be in by 4:00 on Monday. Contact us at record@ ctcweb.net or 253-6961. Crossword Puzzle m m ! CLUES ACROSS 2. A leavened rum cake 38. Baseball official 5. A coarse file 39.
