FzsK In reading the Idaho Republican and Democratic Party Platforms, I found a few sections quite interesting and thought I would highlight and compare them for our readers. Zhe Idaho Democratic Party Platform reads like negative mirror image of the Republican platform. Republican Platform, Article I, Section 3C: "We support restoration of the United States Constitution's checks and Balances that protect the rights and sovereignty of the states by repealing the 17th amendmeiat." q-he 1-7th amendment changed the elec- tion or appointment of U.S. Senators by state legislatures to direct election of SenatOrs by the people of the state. q-he Idaho Democratic Party Platform says, "We demand that we continue direct election of US Senators" Republican Platform, Article I, Section 4: "Sound Currency. We recog- nize the failure of the Federal Reserve System to maintain a sound U.S. dollar and the danger of mercantile banks con- trolling the issuance of our currency. We believe the Federal Reserve Bank should be abolished and the issuing power restored to the people with the stipula- tion that the U.S. dollar be backed by gold and silver. We believe Idahoans need to protect their savings from the ravages of inflation, which is hidden taxation, and encourage citizens to participate in a systematic acquisition ofprecious metals which represent real value as opposed to paper currencies" "[he Idaho Democratic Party Platform says, "We recognize the need for a mod- ern federal banking system, and reject a return to the gold standard as inconsis- tent with a 21" century economy" q-his issue has been argued in the U.S. for well over a hundred years, and the stance of leading economists can be found on line by entering "gold standard" into a search engine. Republican Platform, Article I, Section 5 D: "We believe the State of Idaho should strongly assert its sover- eignty under the 10th amendment to the U.S. Constitution. q-he accumulated usurpations by the Federal Government of Idaho's state sovereignty has reached a point of complete intolerance. The Idaho Republican party hereby recommends. that the Idaho Legislature and Governor nullify any and all existing and future unconstitutional federal mandates and laws, funded or unfunded, that infringe on Idaho's 10th Amendment Sovereignty. We also recommend that the State of Idaho continue to request funding and assistance from the Federal Government which complies with the Constitutional provision of the 10th Amendment, and recommend that the State of Idaho resist the withholding of federal funds as a means of forced compliance with the unconstitutional federal mandates and laws." q-he 10th Amendment reads: "The pow- ers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people" The Idaho Democratic Party Platform says, "We reject the position that state governments have an arbitrary right to nullify federal laws, a position that was settled nearly 150 years ago through bloody conflict" The complete Idaho Republican and Democratic Platforms are available on the Internet.
