Page 8 Wednesday, June 20, 2012 The Adams County Record Cormnunity Spotlight On a Sunday morning Arne and Sharron Pederson -- an attractive, active couple -- can be found tending their netted plot at the Community Garden. Both enjoy growing vegetables and delicious strawberries, and look deceptively retired, but in fact they have, and still live extraordinary interesting and successful lives. "I've been blessed and lucky twice;' said Arne Pederson, who loves to brag about his wife Sharron. After his 50-year marriage he lost his first wife, Patricia, to Parkinson's disease and thought he'd be alone forever. Sharron was also flying solo, until her daughter insisted she join Neither had planned to wed again, but on a deeper level, "We were both looking for people with strong, caring values," Sharron revealed. Bay Cities Racing Pigeon Combine, Inc. will be sponsoring this race. Arne entered pigeon racing with his son as a ploy to keep him out of teenage trouble, and they raised and trained pigeons for 10 years together. Calling the sport the "poor man's race horse," Arne raced pigeons from San Francisco to Council. One year he won enough money to pay for two years of his child's college. Arn e spoke thoughtfully about our country's situation. =I never thought we would have to be concerned about freedom or frightened by finances. The political mess we're in surprises me." "I like my son's thinking:' he continued. "He says the politicians should wear emblems on their jackets identifying their sponsors, the way sports car drivers wear emblems from their sponsors."
