Applications are due July 15, 2012. Valued at $250, each backpack kit contains a variety of items tO encourage daily outdoor exploration and physical activity, such as insect nets, binoculars, leaf printing kits, magnifying glasses, bug boxes, activity idea books, field guides and more. Studies show children who play outside are healthier, have higher self-esteem, are good problem-solvers, have good self-discipline and do better in school. During the pilot year of the program, fifty grants will be awarded this fall to qualified applicants in Ada and Canyon counties. To qualify, applicants must be a licensed year-round childcare facility, a year-round home child care provider, or a preschool facility. Awards will go to those applicants who demonstrate a need for the backpack and the commitment to use the items frequently. American Idol Tryouts American Idol is coming Saturday, June 30th to the Wildhorse Resort at Pendleton, Oregon as a stop on their audition tour for season 12. Solo acts are allowed to line up no earlier than 6am at Cayuse Hall in Wildhorse Resort. Registration will begin at 8am. The first 100 acts in line will get to audition beginning at 9am. Each act will have one minute to sing a capella for the judges. The group of talent will be narrowed down, based on judge's scores, to the top 10. The top 10 will be allowed to perform for two minutes with instrumental accompaniment in CD or acoustic guitar format. One winning act will be selected. Contestants must be between 15 and 28 years old and a legal US citizen. If you are under 18 years of age, you must be accompanied by your parent or legal guardian.
