"[hen-pastor Edwin Deacon commented that he and the 14-member congregation experi- enced neither "any startling events" nor "any conspicuous achievements" during the church's first year as a Methodist denomination. By 1925, the Methodists provided a $1,000.00 payment to the Episcopalians, who in turn handed over to the Methodists the deed to the building. When the Methodist Church merged with the Evangelical United Brethren Church in 1968, the local building was officially renamed the New Meadows United Methodist Church. The New Meadows United Methodist Church hosts the monthly food distribution by the New Meadows Food Bank, which is affiliated with the Idaho Food Bank and staffed by volunteers from the congregation and the community. In collaboration with a volunteer teacher, the church also supports and hosts Bright Beginnings Preschool, a no-cost early education program for children age 3 and up. Its annual Election Day dinner, the Fat Tuesday Baked Potato bar, and frequent potlucks contribute to the sense of family reported by many in the congregation. In recent years the church has sponsored family movie nights, Christmas gift drives to ensure that all children in the community find something under the tree, and oppor- tunities for trick-or-treaters and their parents to warm up with and cider and popcorn.
