Council Center Statement and Request for Input The Board of Directors of the Council Senior Center has decided not to accept CCOA's services. (The reasons for this are not entirely clear at this point, but I'll have more next week.) The Board at the Council Center feels their only alternative to CCOA is to operate independently, relying on donations and fundrais- ing. Tiffani Holden says the center is already quite dependent on these fund- ing sources. She says her job will end on the 20th, but Jerry Bowman will still be employed, by the Board, to cook. Since EOA retained .the transporta- tion contract, Don Mello will still have a job driving the bus. The Center's Board of Directors released the fol- lowing statement: "Due to the end of state/ federal funding and cir- cumstances beyond our control, the Sr. Center will close on July 20, 2012. The name has to be changed and it will become a com- munity center of some kind or close for good. The Center will have to be supported by the commu- nity that eats on the two days chosen. Hopefully, other agencies will want to use the Center for activi- ties, and we can always use donations. Outreach meals will be the respon- sibility of CCOA out of Garden City, Idaho. We regret any inconvenience this will be for any of you." The board is asking for input from area folks. One issue they want to hear from you about is wheth- er to rename the cen- ter, "Council Community Center" in order to remain open at least two days per week. They also need to know if people want the center to continue serving two meals per week, charging $5.00, or $6.00 for take outs. No meals will be delivered. If so what two days should they serve those meals? The public is urged to call 253-4248 or 253-4300 to give your opinion, or for more information. qf Thank you to all who attended our wedding!
