Page 12 Wednesday, August 1, 2012 The Adams County Record Ride Idaho is coming to New Meadows BY DALE FISK A Ride Idaho bicycle tour will begin at New Meadows on August 5. Up to 350 bike riders are expected to meet at New Meadows on Saturday (4th) and begin their ride north to Moscow the next morning. They will be taking side trips to Elk City and Stites along the way, as well as engaging in several traditional Idaho recreational activities, such as rafting the Salmon River. The group will be returning to New Meadows to wrap up their expedition on August 11. Ride Idaho is an annual, seven-day, fully-supported bicycle tour that takes place in different regions of the state each year. It'is a seven-day'all-ability cycling tour lthrough the beautiful state of Idaho. Starting in 2005, the tour has been organized and administered by Ride Idaho, a non-profit organization powered by the dedication of local volunteers. The group's goals are simple: Inform and inspire cyclists with Idaho's heritage and history--Provide positive economic impact to our unique and varied towns--Promote healthy and active lifestyles--Raise awareness of safe cycling. Riders will experience Idaho's nostalgia, beauty and hospitality over the course of the 400-mile ride. Ride Idaho supports host communities, such as New Meadows, by hiring non-profit organizations, local clubs and businesses to provide food, camping, porter services and often entertainment,, as fund- raising opportunities. Registration for riders begins at 2:00 PM at Dorsey Wart Memorial Park. A concert by the popular Boise musical duo, Blaze and Kelly, is scheduled at the park for 4:00 PM on Saturday (4th). The park will be transformed into a small town of colorful tents and awnings, as the bicyclists will camp there that night. lqew Meadows invites the public to come enjoy the concert on Saturday afternoon, and then cheer the group on its way Sunday morning. The group is planning a photo opportunity at about 7:50 AM, just before the riders head north. Check ool our lift shop m F.,,. sbowcasinl! local arlisans.
