The Adams County Record Cambridge Senior Chatter Wednesday, September 12, 2012 Page 9 The Devil I know It seems as though all I have been doing for the past few weeks is running from one thing to the next, and I don't like it. I guess its time for me to start figuring out how to slow my life down a little bit, at least enough to have some breathing room. The bad news (for me) is that as I have gotten older; it takes me hours to accomplish tasks that when I was younger I would be able to complete in a few minutes. So even if I were to slow the pace of my life down, I still would be running and playing catch up. I don't like any of this getting old stuff, but it sure beats the alternative all to heck. Sometimes I think I would like to retire, but I'm afraid if I do I will have to give up too many of the things I still enjoy, so I'm just stuck between the devil I don't know (retirement) and the devil I do know (work). One of these day's I'm sure the universe will let me know when it's my time to step down and Surrender. Until then I'll just keep plugging along and sharing the road with you, my fellow travelers. I went to Mike Fox's Memorial service this morning, and it seems that as well as grateful for the life I've been given. I see the value in community With friends and neighbors, and as people shared memories of the Mike they knew, I felt loss at not having known him better. Janet and Mike were members here at the Senior Center until four years ago when they moved into the Salubria Center. Mike was a good guy, who wore a smile and always had a good word to say. He and Don Watson were the two men we could count on to do odd jobs and to turn the evaporative coolers I always become reflective . on each spring and turn them off in the fall. It wasn't umil his last year of being a member at the senior center that the board decided that it was too dangerous for him to be climbing the ladder to the roof, and I think he was disappointed when we hired the maintenance: done. I didn't see much of Mike or Janet after they moved into the Salubria center; they considered it their home and they were surrounded by a "new" family. Rest in peace Mike Fox, you may be gone, but you won't soon be forgotten. Tomorrow we go shopping to Ontario. On by ]anice Vuich Cawyer -- 257-3358 Monday September 24th we have our monthly foot clinic, on Wednesday we will have a .blood pressure clinic, and on Thursday the 27th we are having our food pantry from 3 to 4 pm. We also are still having our Stretch and Walk classes each Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 to 9 a.m. And, as soon as they change the time back to 9 a..m., I will start going again, I really miss it. Since I'm not a morning person, doing chores and getting out of the: house to be at the center by 8 AM, on a regular basis, is nigh impossible for me, but I fully intend to start again once they go back to 9 a.m. Pinochle is still a regular event on Monday and Friday evenings. If you enjoy the game and want to get better, why not try it out and see how much fun you can have improving your skills? They start at 6:30 and usually end around 9:15. That's all I have for this week, until next time be well and happy and remember no matter how bad things seem, any day on this side of the rose garden is a good one! New Meadows Senior News Younger seniors need to get involved What a busy time for us with our pie sale and all. It went great, thanks to the community and our labor days. Everyone is welcome to come, and We will have music, the Jammers, the cost will be $5 for seniors and $7 for everyone else. Come and play some cards with the seniors on Friday at 3 to 5:00 PM, and then stick around for a wonderful meal. We serve on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday's at 5:30 PM; you don't want to miss it! We are still playing BINGO the first and third Wednesday of each month. We are still a very small group and would love to have more people to corr.e out and join us! It starts at 7:00 PM, and we play 10 games. We are normally out by 9:00 PM. What a great "Family Night" for you to do, and it only cost 25 cents a card per game, then we have a progressive blackout that is $1 a card. So come on over this com- ing Wednesday, the 19th. Both of our trips were canceled because of lack of interest. It disappoints me, but that is the way it goes; I can't get any- one to do anything these days. Some of the younger seniors in this town need to start coming on over and get involved in the center! These older ones are getting tired of doing everything! If you are 60 years of age you should be coming in, even if you are younger, still come on in! By Penny Dreyer We have great food and activities. We have been blessed by an individual from Weiser with a donation of $75 a month for 6 months for our water bill. Thank-you for stepping up for us! I hope that maybe someone else might catch on and do the same! Have a. wonderful day! Silver & Gold Birthdays all over the place Whole new week and whole new things to remind the community 'about. The senior center is alive and doing our thing. Ray and I went for lunch, and Jerry had made sausage gravy, hash browns and scrambled eggs. You should have been there. It was really good. We are going to start up our Bingo games again, now that summer is over and the kids are back in school. The first night is Sept. 14th at 7:00 PM. Bring finger foods to munch on. We have a good time. We also have a lap quilt to raffle off at our October Craft Fair. I am sure Nora would be more than happy to sell you some tickets. It is on display at the center. By Shirley Wilson My test came back A OK so now have to make a game plan to see if I can rectify the problem. I have another appointment with the doctor on the 17 th, Then on the 20th. Ray has an eye appointment at the V.A. On the 24th I take my neighbor to Nampa to the eye doctor and we do some shopping while we are out. Winco and Costco. We always have a fun day. Boy, a busy month at the AAA comments on senior center meal money BY DALE FISK Sarah Scott who works at the Area Agency on Aging commented on information in the "Silver & Gold" column last week about the Council Senior Center. Referring to the 57 cents CCOA is paying the center for meals, she explained: "The .57 is NSIP funding End is a Complete pass-through from the feds (nothing taken out anywhere along the way). Neither ICOA, CCOA nor the A_A.A have any say on how much NSIP funding the feds award:' Beginner Sudoku Wilson house. Birthdays all over the place.
