Temporary office closure The Adams County Drivers License Office will be closed on the following dates: September 17th through Friend house September 21st. The office will re-open and resume normal hours the 24th. fire fundraiser A Soup Feed & Arm Wrestling Contest will be held on Saturday, October 6, 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Council Elementary School to raise money for the Friend family whose house burned. Baskets containing items for a silent auction are on display at U.S. Bank. Tickets for raffle prizes are available at various businesses around Council. A prize for the best soup will be awarded an entrant based on the vote of the public in attendance. Admittance: K - 6th grade - $3. 7th grade - Adult $6. Memorial Service A memorial service for Kevin Cox will be held on Saturday, September 29 at 2:00 PM at the Veteran's Memorial Peace Park. New Meadows Republican Harvest Party Congressman Raul Labrador, Tom Luna, Monty Pearce, Lawerence Denney, Judy Boyle, Terry Gestrin and Steven Thayn will speak at Ernie's Steak House, on Saturday, September 29. Sports and mentoring program MeadowCreek Gold Resort is sponsoring a program for young people in grades 7 - 12. New Meadows students can play a free round of golf or be coached in tennis. The student willbe paired with a mentor - someone who has had a successful career. Although the program is free for the students, MeadowCreek asks that a parent or other responsible adult, play a round of golf at $18. This rate will apply until the course closes because of snow. For information, contact Aaron Ingle at 347- 2555. P&IN Depot open The Historic P&IN Railway Depot at 101 Commercial Avenue in New Meadows will be open to the public Saturday, Sept. 22nd. On display: historic photos and exhibits showing some of the history of Meadows Valley No cameras please. Free admission. Oktoberfest canceled The Oktoberfest event scheduled for Saturday, September 29, has been canceled due to scheduling conflicts. Dutch Oven Gathering in New Meadows October 6 The Front Porch Caf6 is hosting the Meadows Valley Fall D.O.G. (Dutch .oven gathering) on Saturday, October 6. Coals fire up at noon and dinner begins at 3 p.m. Bring a Dutch oven dish to share or salad and drink of choice. Available on site: dishes and silverware, tables and chairs, ice, water, dishwasher, 5 RV hookups, and cooking areas. Backto School/Parent Night Elementary (grades K-5) Weds., September 19, 7:00pm - 8:30pm Secondary (grades 6-12) Weds., September 26, 7:00pm - 8:30pm Ontario Public invitation A community theater is being formed through Four Rivers Cultural Center. Plays, children's productions and musicals and more will be presented. The public is invited to participate at all levels. An informational meeting for those interested in learning about the theater will be held, Monday, September 24th, 7:00 p.m. at Four Rivers Cultural Center's front entrance on 5th Ave. Everyone is invited from children to adults who want to learn about theater, to act, and/or work on backstage projects. Auditions The Community Theater is holding auditions for its fall production on Tuesday, September 25th, 7:00 PM. Needed are 3 females: a teenager, 20-30 and 40-50 year old looking women. Five men who look 20 to 70 are needed. To audition you may prepare a 1-minute piece, read from the provided script or improvise something. Private auditions are available.
