-he Adams County Record Wednesday, October 3, 2012 Page 15 State weed officials call for help from hunters, recreationists, to not spread noxious weeds. Idaho's main hunting seasons are set to open shortly, and this means thousands of people will be traversing Idaho's back country, something that has state noxious weed officials warning could unknowingly lead to the spread of noxious weeds and weed seeds from infested areas to weed free areas. Right now, most nox- ious weeds are in their seed-stage. So that means it's crucial that people in Idaho outdoor regions be extremely careful not to pick up and spread noxious weeds and weed seeds from one area to another,' said Roger Batt, Statewide Coordinator for the Idaho Weed Awareness Campaign. Noxious weeds can often unknowingly become lodged in ATVs, off -road vehicles, pack animals and hunting gear, and then carried from one area to another. Even a few seeds can start a new noxious weed out- break. Noxious weed prevention experts say hunters and outdoor rec- reationalists should drive, pickups, ATVs and off- road vehicles only on des- ignated roads and trails away from weed infested areas. They should also carefully clean ATVs, vehicles, trailers, pack animals and hunting and camping gear before moving them to a new area. Part of the precau- tions should also include using only feed that is certified as noxious See WEED - AWARENESS, page 24 Continued from front page Scorched, and now wet, fiberglass insulation and drywall from the ceiling litter the floor of the county Weed Control building..
