Page 22 This week's photo from David Addington shows an unusual pond in an unusu- al place. It is on modern maps by one name, and on older maps with anoth-. er, more ominous name. Oh, and it's not in Adams County, but it seems like it should be because it can pretty much only be accessed through Adams County. OK, enough clues. It's one of the areas favorite swimming holes, with a great set of cliffs to )ump off of into a deep pool. My dad took my broth- ers and I into see the falls in the early 1960s, )ust a couple years before a road was built up Lost Creek. I figure I was one of not a huge number of people to dive from the cliff before the road went in. The area at the top of the cliff is really trashed now, compared to what it once was. Wednesday, October 3, 2012 q-he Adams County Record ail~- BY DALE FISK The Wesley Fire has grown less than a hun- dred acres from what it was at this time last week, and has gone from being 32% contained to 71% contained as of Tuesday morning, with a total of 15,317 acres burned. There is signifi- cantly less smoke in the surrounding communi- ties as well. As of Monday morn- ing, the fire has also stepped back down to a Type 3 team. with 252 firefighters in 6 crews, 5 helicopters and 7 engines. The cost to that date: $13,247,572. The northwest part of the fire still burning in the Rapid River drainage, and is expected to slowly spread up mountainsides, with the most movement to the north and down the Rapid River drain- age. Late last week the fire burned past Echols Creek to where Granite Fork Creek meets Lake Fork Creek, and on Monday it reached Echols Basin. The fire has good con- tainment lines on the east and south sides, but hot spots continue to be found inside the perim- eter close to these lines. The area closed to travel has been reduced somewhat on the east and southeast side.
