The status of the Wesley Fire has changed abruptly with the recent rain. There are currently no helicopters, engines or crews on the fire. A grand total of one person is listed as the number of personnel now assigned to ire the fire. The cost to date is $14,764,546. The burned area is up to 16,010 acres. Interestingly, the fire is only officially 50% contained. The official report said: "The northwest portion of the fire is still burning in the Lake Fork Creek and Rapid River drainages. This area will continue to smolder but very little fire spread is expected. The northwest quarter of the fire is unstaffed by fire crews due to steep, remote, hazardous topography and will be monitored if fuels begin to dry. Good containment lines are established on the east and south ends of the fire:' The Fire Area Closure Order has been lifted, but the Forest Service said: "Please use caution if entering the fire area. Potential hazards include falling treesl rolling rocks and debris, and occasional flare-ups if fuels dry out. Forest visitors may continue to see smoke from burning logs and duff over the next several days; little to no fire spread is expected. An updated map -of the fire perimeter can be found on Apparently officials don't expectany more trouble fromthis fire, as they announced that there would be no more updates "unless there is significant change in fire behavior: For updated fire information and maps go to or call the Payette National Forest Public Affairs Officer at 208-634-0784. Laugh of the week Mike was going to be married to Karen so his Father sat him down for a little chat. He said, Mike, let me tell you something. On my wedding night in our honeymoon suite, I took off my pants, handed them to your Mother, and said, Here, try these on. She did and said, These are too big. I can't wear them. I replied, Exactly I wear the pants in this family and I always will. Ever since that night, we have never had any problems. Hmmm, said Mike. He thought that might be a good thing to try. On his honeymoon; Mike took off his pants and said to Karen, Here, try these on! She tried them on and said, These are too large. They don't fit me. Mike said, Exactly. I wear the pants in this family and I always will. I don't want you to ever forget that. Then Karen took off her panties and handed them to Mike. She said, Here, you try on mine! Mike did and said, I can't get into your pant- ies. Karen said, Exactly. And if you don't change your smart-ass attitude, you never will. What a difference a week can make. Erin Rohlman took this photo on Wednesday, October 10, at 5:00 PM. It looks very much like the first photo she took of the fire on the day it ignited. Now the fire is almost out. .lira , iG', ( at a prge mrst a- ) MUFFLERS & F.XHAUST WORK 8:00 AM t0 5:00 PM SERVvq[CE & REPAIR Mon thru Fri COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS 2029 HWY 95 I IMPORTS & DOMESTICS C0UNOI. 39+ YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN . . .
