Page 6 Tuesday, November 20, 2012 The Adams County Record Indian Valley & Mesa News Giving l00ihanks By Lynn Leatherman -- 739-5766 With the Thanksgiving season upon us, the col- umn has changed a bit this week to bring forth some memories, traditions and special blessings to be thankful for in our lives. Below are some wonder- ful thoughts from the resi- dents of Indian Valley and Mesa to share with you this season. Connie Hornyak is especially thankful for her children. When you are full of love for your family and know that they return your love, your life is full of thankfulness. She is also thankful for her many good friends in the area. After her recent trip to Boise, she is very thankful for her country home and that we have no stop lights to deal with in our part of the countryside. Lanae Veselka is so very thankful for her family. They are all so wonderful to her, and she loves them very much. Jim and Patty Shaw have a favorite memory to share. Many years ago when they lived in Little Rock, they had their neighbors over to join in the celebration of their Thanksgiving meal. Their neighbors were from Brazil and had never celebrated the holiday before. Introducing the holiday and explaining the history and seeing someone take the holiday into their heart really made a memory that stuck in their own hearts. Building memories with family get-togethers are wonderful. Judy Mott is very thankful for recent retirement this year and all the added time she has to spend with her family now. AftSr her accident this year, Joan Lakey is very thankful for the wonderful husband she has. He took great care of her during the time it took to heal from her broken ankle. The incident made them both thankful to enjoy the things in their lives that are here to enjoy. Janet and Ron Meyer remember a Thanksgiving Dinner at Janet's sister's home where it seemed that nothing was going to go right in the cooking department. Mashed potatoes stuck to the ceiling from a mixer set too high, and smoke alarms going off as a blow torch was used on the cream brulee are just a few of the mishaps. But, twenty-four family members being together was a better memory and a motor home parked at the door to the mall to be first in line for black Friday sales was the best thing in the world. Wanna Belle Coriell says she is thankful for the good lord taking care of her as well as He does. Robin Juica has enjoyed new traditions as Celestino and his family comes to understand Thanksgiving and bring their customs to the holiday. It is wonderful to watch people from other countries and makes one remember the truth in how thankful the pilgrims were. Robin remembers a Thanksgiving when her pumpkin pie she made from scratch wouldn't set up. She finally discovered that she had forgotten to add the milk! Della and John Haberle are very thankful for modern medicine after the year that they have had. With the advances in modern medicine, there will be more survivors. Cathy and Dave Veselka are thankful for their family. Also, they are thankful for the beauty that we are surrounded with -- from the beauties of the creation in our mountains and meadows, rivers and garden to the beautiful wisdom in the old faces and the laughter in the young faces and the joy of being able to see and feel all of this wonder. Mike and Farrah Ball are thankful for having survived the first two days of their vacation this year when Farrah ended up in the emergency room on day one, and Mike suffered a broken nose the second day. They are both thankful for modern medicine that can help premature babies survive, and they rejoice that their grandson is almost at the three pound mark and will hopefully' be home with his family by Christmas. Lavonne Conner is very thankful for her knowledge that God always loves her. Bev Galloway and Larry Boehm are very thankful to live in the United States of America and are thankful to be alive. The ability to enjoy being able to get together with other veterans in the area and celebrate and remember the time they dedicated to our country is a wonderful part of the freedom we enjoy in this country and shouldn't ever be taken for granted. Ardis and Craig Boll are thankful for their family, wonderful friends and the community that they are blessed to live in. While Tom Green laughingly said he was just thankful to still be breathing, Judy summed it up for them both. She is thankful for her family, friends, and good health and for the knowledge of the gospel, because to the two of them that is everything. I send wishes to all that each of you will be able to find something special to be thankful for in their lives this year. Happiest of Thanksgiving wishes to you all. Silver & Gold Wood stacked next to the: tent? Geeze Louise, where did this week go? I made more popcorn balls yesterday (Thursday) and will be making the rounds on Saturday. I plan on hitting the Council Library when they have their soup fundraiser, and also I have to make it to the Seven Devils first thing. Talked to brother Marvin and he was in Cheyenne Wyoming last night, heading for Reno to meet up with brother Marshall. Then they will be here on Monday. I told him he was sleeping in a tent in my back yard. He asked if I had wood stacked up next to the tent. What? The girls are .sleeping in the house; the boys are sleeping in the tent. So cuddle up boys! Patty and I went to Ontario on Wednesday to grocery shop. I made my first stop at the Red Apple.-Great store. Even have sound effects in the meat market. Moo's and clucks for the chicken section. I asked the guy working there if I had to pay extra for the sound effects. Got some great buys. I had to really look hard for some cloth napkins. Doesn't anyone use them anymore? Patty finally found me some at Walmart. The senior center will be doing their annual chili feed right after the Xmas parade.
