The Adams County Record Wednesday, November 28, 2012 Page 9 New teacher of the week Molly Lukes with her husband, Matt, and their daughter, Simone. Molly Lukes teaches 4th grade at Council Elementary School. At least that's her homeroom. These days at the school, the 4th, 5th and 6th grades are getting a taste of what high school will be like, as they have one teacher who teaches Math, one who teaches History, another who teaches English, etc. Molly is in charge of Spanish, Science and Art for those grades. Molly grew up in McCall, her parents still live there, and that's one reason she and her husband, Matt, moved here. After graduating from McCall - Donnelly High School, she got a bachelor's degree in English at Reed College in Portland. From there, she went to Albuquerque, New Mexico to substitute teach and work at a cupcake shop. She taught English to Spanish-speaking kids, which sparked her interest in becoming a full-time teacher. She came back to Idaho and earned a degree in bilingual education at BSU last May. Teaching at Council was her next stop. She teaches Science for two days, Art for one day and Spanish for one day to grades 4, 5 and 6. Her homeroom 4th graders receive her instruction in Language Arts. Husband Matt has a degree in creative writing, and pursues that while caring for the couple's daughter, Simone, who is almost two years old. For the pagt three summers, Molly has been working for the Boise Urban Garden School. "It's like a gardening summer camp where" the students learn about gardening, selling their own vegetables in a farm stand, and cooking what they grow everyday for lunch;' she explained. "It was a great way to combine teaching and gardening- two things I really enjoy." Molly also enjoys outdoor activities such as camping and visiting area hot springs. And of course Simone's grandparents get frequent visits at McCall. 12 Holm 7AMm 7PM Your Club Points Redemption Value: 10 Points = $1.50 Dry Goods Department Only Enter to Win Fabulous Prizes Switch to AIItel.
