The Pastor's Corner Homeless ' BY WAYNE PREEDMAN Recently in Boise the homeless have been the focus of attention when the Boise police closed down their "tent city” near the connector. They were “squatting” I on public land where they had no right to be, and, were living in ‘hazardous conditions,” so they were removed and had to go elsewhere. Many of these folks felt semi—secure there and felt persecuted that they couldn’t stay, because they knew of no better option. Yet they were forced to consider other alternatives. In this column I would like to force you to consider some uncomfortable ' alternatives. Actually I believe there are a lot more homeless than even now we have discovered. If you stop and of your own to provide protection, provision, or security. You have become exposed to the elements of living that could destroy you. We saw it and felt it in the movie “ET,” when he looked at his friends and framed that one personal longing that was missing in his life, “Home.” Movie goers everywhere sensed the loneliness and exposure of a strange place that made him feel vulnerable and alone. And it struck a cord in our hearts that made the movie a box oflice hit. > Why were so many people touched so deeply? Could it be like to “homeless,” exposed storms of our existence? Maybe that’s why Jesus, homeless had such an invitation? What if they on. His last night with were not just invited to His disciples, spoke these words, “Do not let your hearts be troubled.” This statement assumes two things, our hearts have a tendency to become troubled and its our responsibility not to let it happen. But how? With all the storms and insecurities of life, how can we keep from being “troubled.” Listen to what He says next, “Trust in God, trust spend the night but to share a “home” from now on with a loving, secure family who would meet all their needs? And with an air of independence and selfish ignorance they turned to go their own way. Would we not think they were being foolish? ’ This invitation is both real and personal, for you and for me. All we have to do is give up trying to provide for ourselves and also in Me. In My Father’s “trust in God, and trust house are many rooms...I also in Me [Christ].” If am going there to prepare you would like to find a place for you. And if I out ,how to avoid being go and prepare a place “homeless” and experience possibly “ET” we too at times feel for you, I will come back the security of an eternity and take you to be with with a loving heavenly life without protection, Me that you also may be Father, let those of us who provision, or security. Do we have a sense that we are going it' alone and have no real relationship where I am." In short, He know “This world is not says, I am going “home” to my home, I’m just a passin' make a place for you so through" help you. We that I can come back and would love to invite you to Emergency Bible 'Numbers John 14 Psalms 18/: 1-29 Psalms 23 Psalms 51 Matthew 8:19—23 Philippians 4::4-9 Colossians 3:12—17 Psalm 91 Psalm 27 Upset Weak Lonely Sinned Worried Anxious Unhappy In Danger Depressed Verse of the Week Lamentations 3:22-23 22 Because of the LORD’S great love we~are not consumed, for his compas— sions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great'is your faithfulness.
