Indian Valley 81 Mesa News
On the road with Red Neck Turtles
While a major-
ity of the valley
enjoyed having
family and/or
friends stopping
in to at least say
hello over the
holidays, Doris
Baker has had‘the
honor this past
week of a differ-
ent type of visitor.
Most traveling Highway
95 have seen the elk herd
in the fields past her home,
but in the early'morning
hours, Doris has been able
to see, the visitors up a
bit cloSer, like in her front
yard!
Pat and Martha Ball
enjoyed having daughter
Ann and two kids come
to visit from Lewiston
this past week. Ann took
out the four-wheeler and
towed the kids for a little
sledding fiin around the
ranch. Daughter Irene and
her husband came with
their four'kids from Kuna
over the weekend to visit
and also enjoy some sled-
ding fun.
Thursday, Larry Boehm
and Bev Galloway
enjoyed a big dinner and
New Year’s Eve celebra-
tion with a bonfire at
Larry’s, and legal fire-
works brought by Darla
Auld. Joining them were
more Boehms, the Byers,
friends Gary and, Jeremiah
and Dixie‘DeLann from
Washington, and the
Aulds from South Dakota.
Saturday, Larry and Bev
stayed home nursing colds
while the others enjoyed I
a trip up the mountain on
snow mobiles. The Aulds
lefi for home on Saturday,
and the remainder back
to Washington on Sunday,
except for Ken Byers who
is staying a few extra days.
Wanna Belle Coriell had
a busy Saturday attending
a bridal shower for Lily
Holmes in the afternoon
and then a party at. the
Indian Valley Fire Hall
that evening to celebrate
the 25th wedding anniver-
sary of Darren and Jeanine
Coriell. Holly and David-
did a wonderful job plan-
ning and putting on this
special event for their
739-5756
parents. Ed and
Elaine Woods of
Mesa were ,able
to attend, along
with other guests
to make it a very
nice event.
Congratulations
to Jill Doughton
who will have her
“Red Neck Turtles”
now offered by a gour-
met gift basket company
in Utah called Olive and
Cocoa. Thanks to Jill’s
friend, Terry, the candies‘
were first given to an exec-
utive at the company via
her dad as a joke. She got
the call that they wanted
more, actually they wanted
sixty-seven dozen more
for the New Years. Jill
and Margaret spent New
Year’s Eve completing the
orders, and then on New
Year’s Day Jill, Margaret
and Jack headed to Salt
Lake City with a vehicle
loaded to the hilt with tur-
tles to deliver.
Bill and Ruth Reeder
enjoyed having Tony,
Yvette and the three lit-
tle ones come to visit on
Friday afiernoon. The kids
enjoyed a fun time out
sledding and then they all
enjoyed a nice visit and
delicious dinner together.
Jim Shaw has been busy
getting ready to enjoy a
Christmas present he got
for himself this year. Jim
really enjoys the online
courses, and this year
he got himself an online
cooking course from
the Culinary Institute of
America.
Lanae Veselka ended up
with bronchitis to bring
in the New Year, but it
didn’t stop her from enjoy-
ing some games of Rook
with son Dave and a few'
of the grandkids that were
around for the week!
Judy Green and son
William enjoyed a New
Year’s Eve watching some
DVD’s on the Cirque du
Soleil. Judy admits that
William woke her up at
midnight stoking the stove,
but she did get to watch
the ball drop! Sunday,
William was really nice
chauffeuring her to church,
Wednesday, January 6, 2016
but then realized that
maybe the reindeer deco-
rations he put on her car
were more fitting for her
than for him as he drove
around with a big red nose
'on the front of the car!
M Julie Harvey enjoyed a
relaxing time in Elko, NV
with Tom’s sister and hus-
band, Nancy and Warren
Smith. Julie drove down
on Tuesday and' came
home on Sunday. While
there, it was really nice
just to be able to enjoy
time together visiting.
Although she didn’t escape
the cold, she did enjoy
good roads for the drive
both ways.
Mary and Jenny Rininger
enjoyed a nice quiet New
Year’s Eve together. Mary
laughs that the only rea—
son they made it to mid-
night was that she brought
out a bottle of champagne
she had been saving and
it took them forever to get
the cork out! Having their
toast finally after midnight,
Jenny wrinkled her nose
and wasn’t sure why peo-
ple actually liked the stuff!
Craig and Hayden B011
and friend, Craig Bean
enjoyed some bird hunt-
ing time in Payette bring-
ing home seme pheas-
ants, ducks and chukars.
Meagan came up for the
New Year’s, which was
nice, as Craighad to work
on patrol. It was back
to school for Ardis on
Monday, but she did enjoy
a nice visit with Richard
and Lucile Higgins in
Cambridge in the after-
noon.
Robin Stephens enjoyed
lots of company over the
holidays. Christmas Eve,
Celestino’s youngest son,
Edward, and. his wife,
Anna, and four kids vis-
ited bringing homemade
,goodies. After Christmas,
Alan, Clerida, the two kids
and Alan’s sister, Jessy
came and spent the night.
This past Saturday, Robin
enjoyed a day of fim shop-
ping in Ontario and Weiser
and a visit with her brother,
Super, on the way home.
This is‘the elk herd that has been hanging around Indian Valley.

Rearin’ to go for the new year
Did you think I got lost?
No such luck; here I am
January 2016 and rearin’

but I’m goini
Guess what. The
Council Senior Center
is back in business
Starting Tuesday
we are onto a regular
schedule. Wednesday
and Friday is foot clinic,
and I will be calling
you to remind those
of you who have an'
appointment. Thursday
is our regular day to hit
Ontario, and the bus will
leave at 8:30 AM. Please
let Nora know if you
want your name on the
list. Friday is also Bingo
night. We hope you can
come and join us.
We at the center are
keeping our fingers
crossed that our Ed
Garver will get well
soon and come home to
Shirley. It has been hard
for her to make those
trips to Boise. I hear he
is keeping the nurses in
stitches. He is up and
making some progress,
but it is slow. We don’t
heal as fast when we get
older. We miss you Ed!
I don’t know about you,
but I am glad the holidays
are over. With it being so
cold, all I want is a blanket, ‘
hot chocolate, and a good
book.
We will be voting in
new board members this
month. Are you interested
in helping the center
Adams County Record
by being on the board
and help make these
command decisions that
come up? I know we need»
all the help we can come
up with. We need some
younger people who have
some get up and go. Mine
'has dun left me!
Well, I think that covers
all _I know for now. So
until next' week have, a
good and safe time. Stay
true to yourself and help
your neighbor when you
.can. It will come back
to you, and you will feel
good for doing it. The
last time someone I knew
helped a neighbor, they
brought donuts and hot
chocolate and had a party
while chopping wood and
shoveling snow. Go Figure.

Cambridge Senior Chatter by Janice Vuich Cawer
New Years
I hope you had a good
start to 2016 and found
yourselves warm and
healthy and grateful for
another new start. To me,
that’s what New Years is
all about, besides being
a marker in time, it’s'a
new start on promises
not kept and/or goals not
met. In other words, “Do
Overs." Remember when
we were kids, and we
didn't like the outcome of
whatever we were doing,
the call was “I want do
overs," another chance to
do it better. Well, that’s
what New Years are for
me, a chance to do it all
over again, only hopefully
better this time. What
does New Years mean for
you? Have you made any
resolutions or do you just
want “Do Overs” on what
you didn't get done last
year?
I spoke with Christy,
our bus driver, and she
is unable to drive to
Ontario on Tuesday,
January 12th, so we have
changed the shopping
date to Tuesday, January
19th. This trip is open to
anyone in the community,
regardless of age. The
only difference is that if
you are under 60, you
must pay $10, and there
has to be an open seat
for you. It’s still a good
pick you up at your home
and drop you off when
. the day is Complete, and
you don’t have to do any
driving. The gals and guys
that go on this trip have
a great time. Call me if
your interested in going;
I'll make sure you get on
the list. I
I'm not going to stay
late today, as I have frozen
pipes and electrical
problems to deal with at
home. Minor blips in my
fabulous new year! Until
next time, I hope you are
blessed'with good health,
good humor and running
water!
deal, even at $10. We
