Where is This?
Here’s a shot taken
very recently from a
certain vantage point.

this week is a jar of

handy after some of
our contests.
I have to apologize
to Bill Daniels and
Lloyd Brown who
called in answers last
week but their answers
got lost in the shuffle
here at the Record
office.
Last week’s picture
showed a memorial
bench at the Council
Pond, dedicated
to Paul and Nita
Phillips. We had 4
correct answers to
that location, from
Lloyd Brown, Brenda
Howard, Mel Vining
and the Infamous IH
(aka Joe Harris).
Our staff had a big
argument about what
kind of contest to
hold this week until
we called in our

had two men
two women, so some
considered a square
dance marathon or a
mixed doubles debate
on Chevies vs. Fords.
The argument became
to heated that we just
decided to let the
contestants choose
and activity.
Infamous tried to
set the record for the
longest nap ever taken.
Brenda created a
photorealistic portrait
of Calvin Coolidge,
using carefully placed
shot from a .22 pistol
into the back of a 1929
Highway detour sig‘n.
Mel shaved a relief
map of Indonesia onto
the side of a Belgian
draft horse, using a
6th Century sword
she bought at an art
museum yard sale in
Saskatchewan when
she was there teaching
dolphins to read
Braille for a top secret
(until now) military
project. While we
were marveling at the
detail Mel achieved,
showing every tiny
island, here came a
bi-plane with Lloyd
standing on top of it,
waving and smiling.
Well, each of our

us (even though we
didn’t wake Infamous
to tell him), but since
our judging always
involves
dangerous stunts, we
figured Lloyd won the
contest.
The prize last week
wasn't specified
because we had
run out of prizes
temporarily, until

Human spirit is the
ability to face the
uncertainty of the
future with curiosity
and optimism. It is
the belief that prob—
lems can be solved,
difierences resolved. It
is a type of confidence.
And it is fragile. It can
be blackened by fear
and superstition.
