Often a little bucket of grain is successful in catching a rebellious horse. If not, then calm, steady, quiet, slow pursuit works pretty good. Many times a horse will suddenly tire of the bering chase and allow himself to be haltered. In a short time he will willingly submit without the exercise in futility first. He learns that being crafty only makes him work harderl Teaching a colt to lead can be done with several good methods but the impor- tant thing here is teaching to lead on a slack line. A basic principle is now taught that will carry on into bit training. That is, we don't pull on the colt's head. If there's any pulling, he initiates it. The handier merely resists the colts actions.
