Homcmaking Hint I
Buying beef in volume
amounts has several advan-
tages. First, you save
money. Second, it is con-
venient to have the meat on
hand and third, you can
usually get a better quality
meat.
Homaking Hint II
One-third of the consumer
food dollar is now spent in
restaurants, and this figure
will be up to 40% by 1980.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT --
The Food and Drug
Administration says that
saccharin, the artificial
sweetner, can creme cancer
but will not take it off the
shelves until it is ge=e. Must
be artificial cancer.
i think it is nice of the
government, giving us the
time to stock up on the stuff.
They are finally learning that
nobody believes them any-
way.
Now we can be secure in
the knowledge that without
mqlfleial sweetner, we will
be a much healthier and
fatter nation.
We'll weigh more and risk
heart attadm, but t h e
chances of cancer are re-
duced. At least the govern-
ment lets you die of one
thiag at a tlme.

Cambridge Notes
Mr. and Mrs. Alan Dopf,
editors and publishers of
the Cambridge News-
Reporter, have added a new
son to their family. The
new boy, Carey Nathan,
joined an elder brother,
Corey, Saturday August 20.
Mother and son were
releasedfrom the Weiser
HospitalMonday and are
convalescing at their home
in Cambridge.
First it was the drought,
and now it is the grasshop-
pers that are taking their
toll on much of the green-
ery left by the drought.
Hardest hit, as reported this
week, was the Arthur Butts
ranch in the Cove area.
There grasshoppers have
stripped young fruit trees of
their leaves and have begun
gnawing on fruit. The gar-
den there is gone, except
for squash. The drought has
taken care of the crops in
the fields. At the Tony
Thomason ranch in the area
near the Adams-Washington
county lines, the grasshop-
pers have taken the garden
and the worms in webs in
trees are generously situated
in the historically known
black walnut tree in the
front yard of the home.
A group of men from
Coos Bay, Oregon have
been in charge of kayak
trips down Snake River this
summer. Paul Keith, Cam-
bridge has been their car
shuttler. After taking back
and forth, those who have
enjoyed the float trips from
the base of the Hells
I I'll f in " [ I
Canyon dam, to Pittsburg
Landing, Paul got his first
Kayak trip. Embarking on
the trip Friday, he and
seven of the Coos Bay men
arrived at Pittsburg Landing
Sunday afternoon. He
reported an interesting,
exciting experience. Water
level in the river is low but
not too low for kayak float-
ing, it was learned.
Members of Upper
Country Grante No. 251
held a combined fun-night
and Booster Night during a
regular meeting date Wed-
nesday evening. Games and
contests were conducted by
Mr. and Mrs. Dale Lilly,
games that dated even back
to "kid" days.
Birthday anniversaries of
Mrs. Ray Clure and T.C.
Mink, and the 45th wedding
anniversary of Mr. and Mrs.
Melvin Richard s were
acknowledged and greeting
songs sung to them. Mrs.
Arthur Wilson was at the
piano for the greeting songs
and also for a name-that-
tune contest.
Refreshments were
served after the meeting.
Guests for the meeting
were Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Jungert, Tuscan, Arizona,
Mrs. Tom Vogel, Mrs. Hazel
Clure, Mr. and Mrs. Dale
Lilly and Katherine Jaeger.
Many people sow wild oats
and expect to reap roses.
Courage is not a lack of
fear, but the ability to go
on in spite of it.
Last fall there wasa.wcdting
period of up to 6 weeks to get
a FISHER WOOD STOVE. If,
and it seems probable, we do
not have enough water to run
the gererators for electric
power there won't be a wood
stove of any kind available.
Fortunately we now have
about 55 FISHER STOVES
on hand in our warehouse.
In order to assure getting
one at the present price one
should make a deposit now
and pay by the month untill
fall.
