Rivers and streams are low and clear with sharp-eyed trout darting away at "he slightest movement. ~~ "Boy it sure feels like Fall." "You can smell Fall in the air today." "I'm really getting anxious to start hunting...the days are ready too." Comments like these are heard everywhere and all of the sporting goods ntoren have their fall hunting gear displayed. The hunting season is upon us and excitement mounts as doves and ducks, grouse and geese, mulies and moose oc- cupy more and more of the outdoorsman's thoughts. Some of the best fishing, however, is awaiting the ardent angler. The early fall fly fishing in my favorite kind of fishing. The fish seem more wary and the exhilarating crisp air makes wading a clear stream even more enjoyable. Because I enjoy hunting so much but since I am unwilling to "hang it up" for fishing, I have developed a little "fishing survival pack" that I take with my hunting gear. I use a spin/fly combination rod and then I carry both a fly and spin reel, a good assortment of flies and several proven spinners such as Mepps and Worth. After a morning of duck hunting or dove shooting along the river, an hour or two of fishing really adds to the day. Another nice touch is to have freshly caught trout in elk camp to add variety to the menu. Even a berry-picking out- ing can be enhanced by including a few casts after a cautious fish. Hunting...I love it, but let me encourage you to include fishing in your hunting plane. It certainly fills out an already nifty outdoor adventure. ~After successfully escaping fishermen all summer long, the finh you catch now will re- qu re more skill and patience than earlier in the season. Don't be too eurpriged if you meet some "nut" with a bow in his hand, a quiver full of arrows and a fly rod on his back headed into the woods. Fall "Survival" Pac~. Save today on insulation -- save on heating and cooling costs for years to come. Homeguard is a fluffy, fibrous, loose pouring fill that is easy to install. If your present attic insulation depth is less than 6 inches, your home needs greater protection. You'll be dollars ahead and a lot more comfortable, too. ~2-39o27 4 INCHES DEEP , e SAFE-- CAN'T BURN • MOISTURE AND RODENT RESISTANT i, I •
