Dear Editor,
I am a registered
Republican, as are
most of this county's
voters. We have a county
government of elected
employees comprised
of virtually all registered
Republicans. It has
become a very cozy and
comfortable atmosphere
for our government
employees. Much in
the same wayTrump
threatens the Republican
establishment's cozy
system, Tom Watts
threatens the Republican
establishment's
stranglehold on this
county. The Republican
party does not want this
powerful position to fall
out of their control and
have an outsider looking
over their shoulders. Its
time we introduced some
fresh blood into our
county government to
remind our government
employees that they work
for us.
Sheriff Ryan Zollman, in
one of his ads, questioned
how Tom Watts would
act in the event .of

Dear Editor,
OK, no candidate is
perfect, but values count.
Fairness: Who cheats
on his wive(s), and plays
dirty by consistently
telling lies to the voters?
Loyalty: Who has
turned on " his fellow
Republicans, our veterans
(e.g. John McCain, etc.)
and our allies?
Dear Editor,
Much has been made
about HiUary Clinton and
her emails, q-hose who
support her, support her
regardless of what crimes
she stands accused of. I
do not understand that.
When I see one politician
or another being smeared
by the media, and peo-
ple choosing not to vote
for a candidate based on
smears, I have to chuckle.
While Jesus would be
an excellent choice for
any elected off~ce, He did
not file His paperwork in
time, leaving us to choose
Watts for Sheriff
another tragedy - an
apparent reference to the
killing of Jack Yantis. I
have no idea how Tom
would act, but we know
how Ryan acted.
Beginning with poor
hiring practices and
continuing onto a lack of
establishing and enforcing
a strict protocol for the
recording and storing of
video evidence, a lack of
competency was displayed.
Those body cameras not
only protect the citizens,
they protect the county
from unwarranted claims.
Moving to the day of
the tragedy, Ryan failed to
enforce a critical protocol
of separating the two
deputies (a witness does
not excuse this breach)
nor were their phone
records ever looked at to
see if they communicated
before they gave their
statements. The physical
evidence in this case was
not secured immediately
rendering a lot of that
as almost useless. Jack's
gun was moved, shell
casings were moved, etc.
The following week, Ryan
held a meeting to answer
questions and talk about
the killing. Most of us
left that meeting with a
lot more" questions than
answers. Later, Ryan
claimed one the deputies
was still employed when
that was not the case. It
was less than truthful,
and I don't know who
benefited by that
misstatement.
The record of Ryan
Zollman's term, when
viewed together, does
not paint a picture
of competency or
transparency. I'm
sure Ryan is a nice guy,
but his record does
not justify reelection.
Several of us have met
with Tom over the course
of his campaign, and
while-we learned about
Tom, he listened, learned
and adapted quickly. I feel
confident that Tom can
quickly grow into the kind
of Sheriff that can heal
this county.

numbers (after about 6
months of using the court-
house as his campaign
headquarters.) A note was
posted stating the changes
were made "to avoid con-
troversy" Controversy? Is
violating the law merely
"controversial?" Or only
why Ryan Zollman vio-
lates the law?
Ryan may be a nice
guy with good intentions~
Character Counts
Respect: Who
disparages our current
military leadership and
talks as if he would be
king?
Do no Harm: Who
cheats small business
people, abuses our tax
system, and will run up
our national debt?
10 Commandments:
Who makes lewd
comments about
woman, mocks people
with disabilities and
says he does not ask for
forgiveness?
What will we say to our
kids if he wins?

As We Vote
between one mere sinner
or another. However, vot-
ing for people who have
placed themselves above
the law is a very avoid-
able problem, and it is not
something I am willing to
do.
The laws Ryan Zollman
has violated throughout
this campaign are surely
not as serious as possible
breaches of top secret
information, but the
mindset of being above
the law is the same.
For those who are not
aware, it is a violation
of Idaho Code 18-5701
(among others) to use
county resources for your
personal benefit. The use
of the county courthouse
phone number, address,
email address, logo, and
presumably staff violates
the law.
I contacted the
Secretary of State who
instructed me to file
a complaint with the
Prosecuting Attorney,
which I did. He has not
responded to me directly,
but that day the informa-
tion on the zollmanfor-
sheriff.corn website was
changed to private contact

but we are not •electing a
prom king, we are electing
the top law enforcement
official for our county. I
urge you to vote for the
man who will uphold the
law, and hold himself to
the same law he holds you
to. I ask you to vote for
Tom Watts.

Editor's note: The
Record's policy is not to
allow new allegations in
letters to the editor the
week before an election, as
there will not be another
issue of the paper before
Election Day. In order to
print Ms. Cox's letter, we
offered Sheriff Zollman
the opportunity to respond
to Ms. Cox's letter above.
His response follows.
