ABOUT ME
My dream of becoming a career law enforcement office started when I went to work for Deschutes County Sher-
iffs Office as a marine/forest reserve. I worked both on the water as a marine boat inspector and patrolled various
campgrounds in Oregon. I attended Treasure Valley Community College, majoring and graduating with a degree in
Administration of Justice. While attending college, I worked as a campus security officer. After graduation, I moved
to Council, Idaho and married Anna Horton, a lifetime resident of Adams County. We built a home on Hornet Creek
where we are raising our three children. I continued my employment in Council, working on a USFS fire crew until
being laid off at the end of the fire season, I went to work for the City of Council's Road Department as I waited for
a position to open with the Sheriff's Office. My dream as a full time law enforcement officer was realized when I was
employed thirteen years ago as a deputy with the Adams County Sheriff's Office. During this period of time, I have
come to understand that my chosen profession is not just a job, but a vocation and a career, t betieve that God grants
talents and skills to men and women, and that each has a obligation to develop these.
I have been privileged to do so.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
As a Law Enforcement Official, I am called tea very high standard. One qualified for this postition must have the
wide scope of education, training, and experience to perform the duties of this office. Managing resources, effectively
supervising the performance of personnel, as well as foucusing on preventing illegal activities are just some of the
responsibilities, I hold. The sheriff must also posses good judgement, self-discipline & negotiation skills; along with
empathy and perceptivness, to be an effective leader. Yes modern business principles are important but are only one
small facet. The full weight and responsibility for the Office of Sheriff descends as soon as chosen candidate is sworn
into office. I have the essential qualifications and skill for this position.
Over the past four years, I have been able to upgrade and obtain newer safety equiptment for the deputies, including
audio/video recorders and vehicles, to assure the Adams County Sheriff's Office is a professional Law Enforcement
Agency. The Deputies, Cheif Deputy Brown, and I have been personally responsible for setting up the emergency
equipment in the new patrol units, including lights sirens, and radios. Doing this has saved the tax payers of Adams
County thousands of dollars. The jail continues to house guest inmates from other counties and the State, which brings
in revenue for the Sheriff's Office and Adams County. I was also successful in getting salary increases for all
employees, which enabled us to be competitive when hiring officers.
