The alarm was turned in at 10:10 P.M. The house a 2-story frame structure was located in Mesa, ap- proximately 7 miles south of Council. Mr. & Mrs. Morris were loading some equipment in the barn when they heard the sound of breaking glass and then discovered the blaze. Unable to reach the telephone, Mr. Morris was forced to go to a neighbors house about one and one- half miles away to make the call. Both Indian Valley Don Fuller, McCall, an- nounced this week the drive for members to form a new Elks Lodge for the area has been even more successful than had been anticipated. Over 500 persons have joined or transferred to the new lodge, and more are ex- pected as the deadline for becoming a 'Charter Mem- ber' will not have passed un- til "the day before the Fire Department and the Council Fire Department were called and both re- sponded. The Indian Val- ley group arrived on the scene, but too late to have any effect on the fire. Volunteers from the Council FireDepartment responded tothe call and arrived on the scene within 10 minutes of the time the alarm was sounded. How- ever they arrived in their own vehicles as Fire Chief Gary Nance was unable to dispatch either the new Rural Fire Department truck or the City Truck. due to the fact that con- tracts 'covering the new Rural Fire Department have not been signed. If you're feeling a little old because of the passing of another year, or if, as happens to a lot of folks, nostalgia is working on you - take a look at the above picture. Taken during the month of May, 1925 it proves we are still using a good many products which were sold then, namely, Texaco products, Post Toasties, White King soap and Kellogg Corn flakes. Yes it was a Council store and it used to stand where the Council Valley Market parking lot is now. It was, obviously, a model of neatness and good housekeeping, not to mention variety. She is a ranchers wife, she wasn't born in Idaho, but moved to Idaho as a teenager and to Indian Valley 25 years ago. She was active in P.T.A. and a member of the Improvement League. Changes Planned fLor Council ounge Dean Morris, owner of the Council Hotel and Ace Pool Hall, announced this week that the hotel Lounge and the Pool Hall will un- dergo an extensive remodel- ing and redecorating pro- gram next week. A large crew has been ob- tained to do the work and both the lounge and the poolhall will be closed for several days. The work will be started on Jan. 3 in order that plans for their New Year party need not be changed. The Ace Pool hall was the third business to be established in Council and has endured through 3 fires. New equipment including a broaster and grill and other modern appliances are planned for the new opera- tion. The new food pre- paration facilities will be in addition to those used for the Council Care which is in the same building.
