The residence of Mr. &
Mrs. Dean Morris, new
owners of the Council Hotel
was completely destroyed
by a fire that occurred Dec.
21. The alarm was turned
in at 10:10 P.M. The house
a 2-story frame structure
was located in Mesa, ap-
proximately 7 miles south
of Council.
Mr. & Mrs. Morris were
loading some equipment in
the barn when they heard
the sound of breaking glass
and then discovered the
blaze.
Unable to reach the
telephone, Mr. Morris was
forced to go to a neighbors
house about one and one-
half miles away to make
the call.

Elks Lodge for the area has
been even more successful
than had been anticipated.
Over 500 persons have
joined or transferred to the

becoming a 'Charter Mem-

Fire Department and the
Council Fire Department
were called and both re-
sponded. The Indian Val-
ley group arrived on the
scene, but too late to
have any effect on the
fire.
Volunteers from the
Council FireDepartment
responded tothe call and
arrived on the scene within
10 minutes of the time the
alarm was sounded. How-
ever they arrived in their
own vehicles as Fire Chief
Gary Nance was unable to
dispatch either the new
Rural Fire Department
truck or the City Truck.

Firemen were only able
to save a quantity of tools
stored in a small shed close
to the house, a pile of fire-
wood and a standing gaso-
line tank.
Chief Nance stated that
had the truck been avail-
able the structure could
have been saved with only
damage to the living room.

If you're feeling a little old because of the passing of another year, or if, as happens to a lot of folks, nostalgia is
working on you - take a look at the above picture. Taken during the month of May, 1925 it proves we are still
using a good many products which were sold then, namely, Texaco products, Post Toasties, White King soap and
Kellogg Corn flakes. Yes it was a Council store and it used to stand where the Council Valley Market parking lot
is now. It was, obviously, a model of neatness and good housekeeping, not to mention variety. The store was owned
and operated by Carlos L. Weed Sr., father of our own Carlos Weed.
